Google’s Disavow Tool

disavow

Google announced on the 16th of October, their new link disavow tool. This basically means that if you feel that your site has been harmed by low-quality links you can ask Google not to take them in to account when accessing your site.

Our team has discussed this release and we have several theories;

  • Could this be flagging to Google that you have been actively buying links to your site?
  • If there is a domain that gets disavowed repeatedly, then Google crawls your site and you have a link from that site, will Google use that information to count that as a negative paid for link?

Are Google building a user generated database of sites that sell links, enabling them to identify when a site has been partaking in buying links.

There is a great post written by Josh Patrice detailing the do’s and dont’s of using the disavow tool.

The Dos and Don’ts for Google’s New Disavow Links Tool

We are not going to repeat a post detailing the step-by-step guide on how to use the tool but below is a ten minute video by Matt Cutts explaining all….
